[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac OS Ten ten.6.8
Issues installing nether the Mac OSX - X11 - Aqua
[Solved] OO iv.ane.0 on Mac Bone X x.6.8
Later on receiving notification of the availability of Open Office 4.one.0, in which information technology was stated that the update was suitable for Mac Bone X ten.3 onwards, I downloaded the relevant file … noting that it stated:
"Download Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0
Click here to download (hosted by Sourceforge.net) for:
Mac Os X (10.six or older) and English (British) | ~159 MByte | Released: 2014-Apr-29".
However when I attempted to run the instal, a bulletin was displayed indicating that this could not proceed equally my version of Mac Os X was not suitable - I run OS 10 ten.half dozen.8.
Concluding edited by GridLok on Sat Mar 19, 2016 12:47 pm, edited 1 fourth dimension in total.

I hope that the erroneous bulletin will by now have been corrected.
OO iv.1 does _not_ work on Mac 10.6.viii. You need to render to 4.0.ane; please download it again from this link:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openoff ... g/download
(expect v seconds for the download to starting time after you click the link)

Re: OO 4.ane.0 on Mac Os 10 ten.6.8
Do does this mean that Snow Leopard is no longer supported? Is four.0.one the end of the line?
It seems rather odd that a Java application should be and then dependent on operating system version.
In any example, if 4.0.1 is the terminate of the line, it would exist nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Unless you have a rather quondam Mac, you can first upgrade to Mavericks (10.ix); information technology'due south costless from Apple. Then you can install AOO releases beyond 4.1.0. If you can't/don't upgrade OS Ten, then you're probably stuck until yous buy new hardware. Check Mac resources on the web if you lot need help determining if you tin can upgrade, or if yous demand help installing Mavericks.
If this answered your question please become to your kickoff post utilize the Edit push button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the greenish checkmark icon at the same time.

Only some sections of OpenOffice employ Java.

From the release notes at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dis ... ease+Notes
"Note: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit application and requires Mac OSX 10.7 or to a higher place."
It seems rather odd that a Java application should be so dependent on operating system version.
Apache OpenOffice is not a Java application.
In any example, if 4.0.1 is the terminate of the line, it would be nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.
Both the release notes (run into above) and the arrangement requirements,

, country that Mac Os Ten ten.7 (Lion) or college is required.

Re: OO 4.ane.0 on Mac OS Ten x.6.8
Although my hardware tin run Lion, Lion is a pig (compared to Snow Leopard) and even if it wasn't I *hate* the interface changes. Much of that was fixed in Mountain Lion, but my hardware can't run that.
I've been planning to upgrade for a while at present, simply honestly, with an SSD and maxed out RAM my MacBook Pro (two,1) is even so more than than adequate. I am also one of the few people who seems to like a 17" laptop any more than, and I am non terribly interested in shelling out for a new machine until I admittedly take to if information technology means downgrading to a 15" screen.
I've got to say that I'm really distressing that just when Open Office starts to get truly usable I tin't run the latest version whatsoever more.

So only keep using the version of Apace OpenOffice that you accept. It is much more contempo than your computer and operating organisation. I am happy using an older version on my 2d figurer, a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

Re: OO iv.1.0 on Mac Bone X 10.vi.eight
I use Snow Leopard considering I *prefer* it, not considering I like running old software. Snow Leopard is low-cal and fast, faster than anything that came earlier information technology and faster than annihilation that has come since. I really don't like what happened with the iOS-ification of Bone/X and I have yet to detect a unmarried feature in newer versions that makes me want to upgrade.
Open Office, on the other hand, has seen substantial improvements in every release and It has only been rather recently that I've considered it truly usable (although I have been using it since it was called Star Role...)
If this is actually the end, *Delight* find a way to stop the bloody annoying pop-ups that keep telling me to upgrade.

It is already there in your preferences. Did you wait? The option has been in that location equally long every bit I remember.
On the menu bar click on 'OpenOffice'
Click on 'Preferences'
In the window that opens go to OpenOffice/Online Updates
Under "Online Update Options" uncheck "Check for updates automatically"

I wonder nearly this.
I have Os x.six.8 on my MacBook Pro from 2009 and I e'er thought this is a 64 Bit machine, I still think information technology.
Then I don't understand why OO 4.1 doesn't run on information technology, both 64 Bit.
Why?

Why?
Because AOO 4.1 requires OS X ver.ten.seven or newer. Information technology won't run on older versions of Bone X.

AOO 4.1 requires Bone X ver.10.7 or newer. The operating system requirement is contained from it being a 64 flake app. Many current applications for Macs require Bone 10 ver.7 or newer.

No, I didn't understand your reply because I read in the General Remarks of the AOO 4.1 Release notes this judgement:
Annotation: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit awarding and requires Mac OSX ten.7 or higher up.
I read this like this: Equally it is a 64-bit application it requires Mac OS 10.seven. This is the matter I don't sympathize. OS ten.6 is 64-fleck too, I don't empathize the logic in this remark.

The underlying routines in the earlier operating system don't arrange the current version of OpenOffice. If you have noesis of Mac OSes, the OpenOffice software source lawmaking is available and you might patch it to suit your operating system. I'1000 certain there will be OpenOffice developer help available should you decide to do this.

1. Apache OpenOffice is a 64-flake application.
2. Apache OpenOffice requires Mac OSX 10.7 or higher up.
